Update 6/19:

The Community Park District is taking the next steps in determining the feasibility of continuing operation of the existing fitness center at 1100 E. 31st Street in La Grange Park. We are scheduling building inspections as well as an ADA assessment. We want to thank the Greater LaGrange YMCA and the Village of La Grange Park for their responsiveness and support as we continue to investigate the possibility of maintaining access to fitness and wellness services for our community. Once we have reviewed this next round of information, our board will schedule a special meeting to discuss and potentially make a final determination. It is important to reiterate that minimizing service interruption to the existing members and providing a seamless transition would be critical to the success of this endeavor.  We hope to be able to communicate our final decision before July 1.

Dear La Grange Park Residents,

The Community Park District board and staff are actively working to determine the feasibility of continuing operations of the fitness center at 1100 E 31st Street.

The Greater La Grange YMCA announced that it is scheduled to cease all operations at this location on July 18, 2025. It has been determined that the ability for the Community Park District to successfully maintain this amenity for the community revolves largely around the time it would take to transfer operations. We are currently working to schedule meetings with the Village of La Grange Park to determine inspection requirements and potential occupancy permit timelines.

It is the position of the Community Park District Board of Commissioners that the district should only pursue acquisition if the operation can be self-sustaining, and would not rely on tax dollars for operations or long-term capital improvements.

We are deeply committed to working with the Village of La Grange Park, the YMCA, residents of La Grange Park, and existing members to evaluate any and all impacting factors. We hope to have more information in the coming week.

We appreciate the patience and engagement of our residents and members as we continue to work through the details and potential impacts of this important issue.

If we can provide additional information, please do not hesitate to contact jcannaday@communityparkdistrict.org.

The Park District is currently investigating the feasibility of and level of support for the potential acquisition of the YMCA fitness center located on 31st Street. On Tuesday, June 4, nearly 50 people were in attendance at a Special Meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners to provide public comment on this topic. If you were unable to attend, we are hosting a Community Input Meeting this Saturday from 4-5pm at the La Grange Park Public Library. We hope you will join us and let us know your thoughts.
