The Community Park District has a long history of providing day trips to destinations outside the Lagrange Park boundaries. We look to expand our programming by providing day trips to destinations that offer unique and memorable experiences for all.

Garfield Park Conservatory
Thursday, March 30 from 11am-3pm

For over 110 years, the Garfield Park Conservatory has been a green oasis amongst the concrete jungle of the Chicago’s downtown. We’ll start by enjoying the Conservatory’s many exotic displays including the annual Spring flower show. From there, we will head to Spinning J, one of the few remaining soda fountains left in Chicagoland. Lunch is not included. Age: 55 and better

Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Unity Temple Tours
Thursday, April 27 from 11am-3pm

Frank Lloyd Wright used his first home to experiment with design concepts that contain the seeds of his architectural philosophy. Unity Temple is a National Historic Landmark, exemplifying Wright’s theory of organic design. They just so happen to be around the corner from one another! Tag along as we take a guided tour of his first home, break for lunch and enjoy a guided tour of the Unity Temple Tour. Lunch is not included. Age: 55 and better

Illinois Railway Museum 
Saturday, May 20 from 10am-4pm

All Aboard! Trains, transit, and tracks as far as the eye can see! Located in Union, Illinois, the Illinois Railway Museum is the largest museum in the USA and runs demonstrations of many working trains. From 1800’s steam engines & pullman cars, to recently retired CTA red line trains, there is something everyone will enjoy. After departing the Recreation Center, we will stop at Alpine Subs to grab sandwiches. Food options at the museum are limited. A cooler will be available on the bus for everyone. Fee includes Alpine sandwich, transportation, and museum entry. Age: 55 and better

Allow us to whisk you away from La Grange Park to some of Chicagoland’s best eats, without having to drive yourself! These trips are designed with mobility and comfort in mind. $10 Participation fee will cover transportation expenses only, unless otherwise noted. Participants are expected to pay individual tabs at the restaurant. Participation fee is required to attend this program. Approximate entrée price listed near restaurant. Age: 55 and better

Dog Obedience

Dogs must be at least 4 months old. Handlers: Old enough to handle dog in a group setting.

Is your dog becoming a monster and driving you crazy? If you are tired of being kept up all night from constant barking, if your home furnishings and personal belongings are being chewed up, or just want basic commands mastered, sign up for this class. For beginners only, the first class will be a two-hour orientation from 7:00 – 9:00 pm without your dog. You must attend this informative meeting.

Matinee Movie Club

Same gathering, just a new name! We'll meet at the Recreation Center every 2nd Monday for a movie and light meal (pizza, sandwiches, etc). Participants get to vote on the movie for the next month, which ranges from new releases to timeless classics. Please call our office at (708)354-4580 to place your name on the mailing list.
