Community Park District Board Unanimously Approves Military Discount

At the regular meeting on September 13, 2021, the Community Park District Board unanimously approved a 10% discount on select programs and services for active duty military, active reserve, veterans, retired military, and their immediate families.

The Community Park District has a long history of honoring servicemen and women and developed the new operational policy to further support and those who serve.

The policy applies to a wide range of group lessons, programs, camps, and activities. It also applies to outdoor shelter reservations and special use permits. Those that qualify for the discount can set up a military designation by providing proof of service in-person at the Recreation Center, 1501 Barnsdale Road. Acceptable forms of ID can be found on the park district's website,

The discount extends to immediate family members defined as a spouse and children under age 18 that live in the same household. "Making important services such as preschool or access to athletic programming more readily available to the families of our servicemen and women was very important to us," says Community Park District's Executive Director, Jessica Cannaday. While the military discount is available to anyone regardless of where they live, program fees are determined by residency.

Discount exclusions include select contractual programs, private lessons, and memorial gift purchases such as bricks, trees, or benches. Team league registration is also excluded, unless 50% or more of the team consists of those eligible for the discount.
